Public Infrastructure Consultation

Since early 2006, GG&A has partnered with The Praxis Group in Calgary to provide community survey research and stakeholder/landowner consultation services. Grant Galpin has provided these services, acting as a team member on the community & stakeholder consultation teams.

  • Community Surveying Processes

The community stakeholders’ surveys were undertaken in 2006 for Encana Corporation and 2007 for Conoco Phillips Canada. Each company wanted to obtain genuine community feedback on their operations from key stakeholders and members of the public. GG&A was responsible for stakeholder groups that included First Nations & Aboriginal communities, Social Service agencies, community organizations, government representatives (from all 3 levels), and contractor groups.

The survey process was conducted on a face-to-face interview basis, and in some cases as a group consultation. GG&A received extremely positive feedback for our part of the process – and more importantly, both clients were able to glean helpful information that allowed them to make important changes in the way they interacted with the broader community.

  • Stakeholder/Landowner Consultation Services

GG&A has provided stakeholder/landowner consultation services to Altalink Management Ltd on key provincial transmission line projects in southern Alberta. This has involved a formal consultation process, including face-to-face interviews, formal regulator record of the consultation, and follow-up interaction with landowners and stakeholder groups along the planned transmission line route.

GG&A has provided a valuable service using formal consultation skills of presentation, overview of landowner consultation rights, interview interaction, land use descriptions, and formal record-keeping. The client then receives regulator-ready consultation records which are attached, and entered into their database for formal inclusion with their regulatory application to request approval to start construction on the transmission line project.

  • Community Meeting Facilitation

Using the skills discovered in our work with nonprofit organizations, GG&A also has on occasion exercised a community meeting facilitation role during public consultation processes. The client receives a well-run stakeholder meeting, guided interaction with the stakeholders, formal records of feedback, and the opportunity to present their information directly to the stakeholders.
